PRICKLY BURR Acaena magellanica

Prickly Burr can have stems up to 40cm (15.7 inches) high depending on its situation. Grows in large clumps, distinctive with reddish/ green stems and large serrated leaves. The burrs have spines which embed readily in clothing, hair, and sheep's fleeces and it is very difficult to remove. Likely to be seen in damp places along ponds and streams and amongst rocks close to the sea. Found on East and West Falklands and also on Tierra del Fuego , South Georgia, Iles de Kerguelen and Andean Patagonia.
